Japanese Paper Lantern

History of Japanese paper lantern is very old. The paper lantern played an important role of lighting up in old days when there was no electricity. Today even though it's so easy to get electric light, peper lantern is still very necessary to Japanese culture.
We see paper lanterns everywhere, for example at festivals, at funerals, at temples and at stores. It's very interesting that some areas in Japan make own unique shapes and designs of lanterns. The skills of making paper lanterns are still transmitted from generation to generation.
Nowadays the colorful and fashionable lanterns which are more interior for rooms have become popular but Japanese traditional paper lanterns are peculiar and attract people.
